American On Purpose: The Improbable Adventures of an Unlikely Patriot

The other night, I finished listening (yes, listening) to an audiobook from one of my favorite actors/comedians, Craig Ferguson.  The book was called American On Purpose: The Improbable Adventures of an Unlikely Patriot.  This autobiography was simply amazing.  Not only was it well written, the fact it was read by Craig Ferguson himself made it so much more interesting and funnier.  It always helps when the actual author of the book reads his own work; the message that he or she is trying to transmit to the reader (or listener in this case) is done much more effectively (see Bill Clinton reading My Life, another great audiobook).  And it just sounds so much better with his scottish accent!

Without going into too much detail, the reason why this book is so great is Craig Ferguson finds a way to give us his life story in a light and fun way, despite his many downfalls with drugs, debt, divorce and beatings with sticks from his Scottish teachers.

Honestly, if I could give a short description of this book without giving all the good stuff, forget about the american anti-terrorism pride or freedom fries; this book reminds the reader why so many immigrant families came to America in the first place: A better life and to pursue the famous "American Dream".

I totally recommend this book and hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.

Carlo.

It's about time I post something...

After months of not doing anything with this site, I've finally decided that I should start posting things regularly.  When I first set up this blog, the objective was to keep people up to date on my travels; unfortunately, I'm not traveling as much as I would like to.

So, instead I've decided to bug you guys with anything and everything.  Whenever something comes to mind I'll (try) to post it here.  You know, just to shoot the shit.  It could be a rant, a way for me to vent my work frustrations or simply a review of a movie, game or audiobook I enjoyed.

You might be asking yourself why, after all this time, have I finally decided to do this? Well, there are many reasons, but probably the main one is that I haven't done much with this site.  I've had many ideas, but never got around to implementing them.  But I think by simply doing small updates here or there, it will become a routine, a way of life. I believe doing this will slowly point me in the direction I should be taking this site and ultimately find the niche I've been looking for.  ...And if I can find a way to make a few extra bucks doing so then, Hey!  Why Not?

Now, Enjoy the ride; it'll be a bumpy one!

When in Rome...

"...Yes? Please go on..."

So here we have it.. the final stop of my trip.  After not knowing where to finish my trip, about a week or two before leaving, I had finally decided to go meet up with my cousins Leo and Dimitra in Rome.  I really wasn't there for long so I don't have much to say about it.. espescially since I've already been; the only reason why I really went to Rome was to go meet my cousins and to have a good pizza with prosciutto and mozzarella di buffala... MMmmmmmmm...

The two days I was there pretty much consisted of walking around the city, like usual, and checking out the Colleseum, Palatine Hill and the Trevi Fountain again.  That fountain just never ceases to amaze me.

The night I arrived, we went for supper with some of my cousins friends and their local friends... OMG! After 4 weeks of travelling, I totally forgot what a REAL meal tasted like... It was SOOOOOO good.  And I'm just talking about the Antipasto.  I can still taste the prosciutto and the mmmm. bocconcini.. in my mouth.

The night after, Leo and I went on... yes... the Rome Pub Crawl.  Hey, when in Rome, right?  It was pretty cool to be out partying with my cousin in none other than Italy.  Something that probably wont happen in the very near future again.

The night after was filled with more sightseeing and obviously, before leaving for Paris to catch my plane back to Montreal, I got to have my Italian Napolitan-style Pizza with Prosciutto and Mozzarella di Buffala... That just hit the spot.  At that moment, my trip was complete and I was finally ready to come home.

Recap of the Trip:

Most Memorable Moment: Hiking on the Great Wall of China

Most Surprising City: Edinburgh

Favorite City of the Trip: Edinburgh

Most Recurring Movie Quotes: Anything from Anchorman. No matter what country I was in, someone said something that referred to that movie.

Most Recurring Song: Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi.  I heard that song in every country I visited, including China.

Best Meal: The Antipasto at some Italian restaurant in Rome

Worst Meal: First meal we had in Shanghai.  Always make sure you go to a restaurant with a menu in english or with pictures. If not, make sure you go with people with more than 1 day of mandarin classes completed. :P

Most Odd thing I ate: Haggis.  Bits of Sheep cooked inside a sheeps stomach... it was actually pretty good, but still weird.

Most Disgusting Think I saw: Seeing a little Chinese girl pee in the middle of the Train Station.

Funniest Moment: Seeing Chinese people sing Kareoke... Everyone's gotta witness it at least once. :P

And that's it for me.  I'm Carlo Pagano, you stay classy Planet Earth.
